From Ushuaia, we set sail into the legendary Drake Passage — known as the gateway to the most remote continent on Earth.
For 3-5 days we will cross the infamous Drake passage.
Famous for its wild seas and powerful winds, it can also become wonderfully calm, carrying Tilvera on long, graceful swells beneath endless skies. Guided by albatross and whales, we begin to feel the true scale of the ocean and the freedom of the off-shore sailing -while something in us starts to transform.
Our first encounter with Antarctica begins in the South Shetland Islands, a wild chain of volcanic peaks where fire and ice meet. Penguins, fur seals, whales and seabirds thrive among these remote shores, while the remains of old whaling stations stand as haunting reminders of a darker past. Here, the landscape tells a powerful story of resilience, survival and our responsibility to protect this extraordinary wilderness.
There are few places on Earth where nature feels so immense, so powerful, and yet so incredibly fragile as the Antarctic Peninsula. Here, mountains of ice rise from a dark and restless ocean, glaciers creep slowly towards the sea, and enormous icebergs drift silently through channels of the deepest blue.
Be part of our first Tilvera Christmas party in Antarctica—a magic celebration in the remote shores of Antarctica. Where penguins gather in bustling colonies, seals rest peacefully upon the ice, and massive whales arrive to feast in these productive waters…
Take part in ongoing Antarctic citizen science projects that help us better understand and protect the frozen world. From observing tiny marine organisms to monitoring seabirds and recording whale sightings, every observation can contribute valuable information to ongoing research. Together, we become part of something bigger—exploring these remote ecosystems while helping scientists understand, monitor and protect them for the future.
January 31, DISEMBARKING: USHUAIA
After two weeks in the frozen continent, we turn north and sail back across the Drake Passage, meeting its giant or gentle waves as seabirds and whales become our nomadic companions, guiding us home. Aboard Tilvera, on her ninth Drake crossing.
After such an immersive journey, be ready to return changed, carrying with us the feeling that for a few precious days, we were not visitors in nature, but part of something much greater.
